Hastings International Piano

Quelle nuit! The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra lit up the White Rock Theatre for their Gala Concert at the end of September which I shot for Hastings Piano. You could feel the buzz from the moment the doors opened – it’s not every day one of the world’s great orchestras comes to Hastings.

The 55-piece RPO were on top form under conductor Scott Dunn (who’s also joining next year’s judging panel), filling the hall with that unmistakable, spine-tingling sound. Prizewinners Curtis Phill Hsu and Harmony Zhu were simply brilliant – Curtis with Chopin’s Concerto No.1, Harmony with Rachmaninov’s Concerto No.2 – and then, just when we thought it was over, they gave us a playful encore: Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No.5 for piano duet.

A magical evening to photograph.
