From first round to final chord.
One of the world’s leading piano competitions — held biennially in Hastings since 2005, with roots back to 1908. I photographed the entire 2026 competition, from the first-round concertos to the finals with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Hastings International Piano is one of the only competitions in the world that asks competitors to play full concertos from the very first round. This year’s edition selected 40 pianists from 19 nations, chosen from 356 applicants across 46 countries. The finals, held over two evenings at the White Rock Theatre, saw finalists perform with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. I covered the competition throughout, from the first round to the final results.
